The September Reset: 5 Steps to Get Back to Business After summer
===
[00:00:00] Welcome back to Success in Mind, the podcast where we break through mental blocks that hold you back so that you can create the life and business that you really want. ~I have been off for the last month, kind of unintentionally. I didn't plan to take a break from the podcast this summer, but as I approached August.~
~I just felt like I needed a break. I needed some downtime to recharge, and I'm feeling pretty good about that and I'm ready to dive back into the show and~ today we're gonna talk about something that happens every single year. September arrives, summer slows down, and suddenly we're looking ahead at the final stretch of the year.
So if you're feeling a little off track, maybe your routines slipped over the summer or maybe you lost some focus. Don't worry, you are not alone. September is actually the perfect time to reset, re-energize, and get back to business with intention. So today I'm gonna give you some tips for how you can restart, get some momentum back and finish this year strong.
So let's dive in.
Welcome to Success in Mind, the podcast for driven entrepreneurs ready to rewire their thinking, to create success on their terms. I'm Terry [00:01:00] Holland, and I will help you to do just that through high performance coaching and hypnotherapy. I'm here to help you overcome fear, ditch the self-doubt, and tap into unstoppable clarity.
If you're ready to align your mindset with your goals, you are in the right place. Let's get your success locked in.
Okay. First of all, why September is the reset month? Well, it kind of feels like a second new year, doesn't it? Even if you don't have kids, there's that back to school energy. The seasons begin to shift. I'm noticing the leaves are turning color already, and it's a natural invitation to reset. Now the good news is that you have four full months left in the year, and that is more than enough time to make some massive progress.
So if you've been thinking, oh, this year is a wash, I'm not where I was supposed to be by this point, let me [00:02:00] stop you right there. Because you have time, you have more than enough time to make a real impact.
And some might even say that the fourth quarter of the year is the biggest quarter of the year, so there is still a lot of road ahead of you, my friends. But before you dive back into everything, before you start the September reset, it's a really good idea to take a moment to reflect. So ask yourself these questions.
What have I accomplished so far this year? Now, not from a, oh, I haven't done enough perspective, or from shame or guilt, or feeling bad. But look at what you actually have accomplished this year. Big accomplishments, small accomplishments, doesn't matter the size, but take stock of what you have done so far.
Then ask yourself, what am I proud of? What are you proud of [00:03:00] this year? Like I'm proud of. I set some really tough boundaries in my business and all my time. What are you proud of so far this year? And what's still undone. That really matters to me. That's the third one. What is still undone?
That matters to me. So if you are gonna focus on one thing for this final stretch of the year, what is that one thing that you're gonna focus on? And then write it down. Celebrate your wins first. You know, we're so quick to jump into what's next? What do I need to do next? Often we forget to acknowledge what's already been achieved and then get really honest about what deserves your energy for the rest of this year.
Your momentum doesn't come from trying to do everything. It comes from focusing on the right things consistently over time.
So once you've done that, [00:04:00] you've taken some time to reflect. We can move on to the next step, which is to create a 90 day vision. Now you'll be thinking, but there's more than 90 days till the end of the year. Yeah, but how productive are you in December? Like get real with yourself. How productive are you?
So we're already at the start of September, December, maybe you're gonna get a half month of work out of it. And that's a good thing actually, because. I want you to take a break in December. I want you to set yourself up now so that you can take some time off in December. Enjoy it with your friends and family.
Celebrate, have some fun. Don't, I hate, and I know that's a strong word, but I hate when I hear entrepreneurs tell me that they work all the way through the holidays. If you feel like you have to do that, that you can't take time off, that is a big problem because you probably got into business for time freedom and money [00:05:00] freedom and not my friends is neither of those things.
So one of the ways that you can take a break successfully. Is to plan ahead. So create a 90 day vision. We're gonna zoom out. Picture yourself at the end of December. What would make you feel proud as you close out the year? What would feel like a win? And then once you know that you can break it into monthly priorities, September, October, November, and whatever amount of work you're gonna do in December.
And each one is like its own little sprint. So you don't have to do it all at once. This isn't the marathon. This is just small sprints to get you to the end and just stay focused on what matters the most during this 90 day window, which is really more like a four month window. ~But remember, we're taking a break.~
~We are taking a break this December.~
And then once you've done that, you've created your 90 day vision. Now we can look at your habits and your energy. [00:06:00] Momentum is built on your daily habits. So ask yourself what routines fell away over the summer that you need to bring back in? Maybe that's your morning routine, your journaling practice, your workouts, even just setting time aside every week.
To be quiet and think and visualize what you want for your business. It doesn't have to be complicated. You can start simple. Even something as small as writing down your top three priorities every morning can set the tone for your entire day. Small actions, big momentum. So what do you need to bring back in for your routines?
I've been having this conversation a lot with many of my clients lately of. What, what fell by the wayside over the summer? What do they need to call back in? Reestablishing that morning routine, getting back into their health and fitness routine, getting out for those walks, [00:07:00] getting back to meal prep.
And you might be thinking, Terry, all that sounds like health and fitness. What does this have to do with business? It has everything to do with business. Because if you are a solopreneur, a small business owner leading a team, a large business owner leading a bigger team, you are the decision maker and you cannot make great decisions if your brain and your body are not primed for success.
So what is it that you need to do to take care of yourself? Are you exercising? Moving your body intentionally. Are you eating well? Feeding yourself good, nourishing foods throughout the day? Are you getting enough sleep? Are you hydrated? All of these things are going to affect your decision making skills, and as a business owner, you don't have time to make bad decisions or to stall on decisions.
You need to be able to decide quickly, and you need to be able to make clearheaded [00:08:00] smart decisions That starts with taking care of you. So what habits are you gonna bring back in? Or maybe new habits that you need to start. Once we have that taken care of, we've reassessed our energy and our habits.
Now we're gonna clear some clutter. This is a part that most people skip they might not even think about, and this is crucial. It's removing the things that drain your energy. What commitments, distractions, or time wasters do you need to let go of right now? Now think about it. It's not just what you add back in, but it's also, what are you going to cut out?
Clearing space makes room for momentum. I have decided on two major things that I'm letting go of for this final part of the year, and I'm not gonna share them with you yet because, uh, well they're big and there's going to be a ripple effect from doing [00:09:00] it, but I promise you at some point I will share with you.
Now, once we've cleared out the clutter, we've gotten rid of the things that are draining us. Now it's time to reclaim your confidence.
This is step five momentum's, not just about time and the habits, it's also about your beliefs, and over the summer. Maybe you lost a little bit of that fire. Maybe you started second guessing yourself or doubting if you can actually hit your goals. So let me remind you this, you have already done hard things.
You know how to succeed. Confidence does not come from waiting until everything is perfect. It comes from taking small, consistent actions and stacking those wins until you cannot ignore how capable you actually are.
So if you've been there, if you are in a place where you are second guessing, you're thinking, wow, I am not where I need to be by this point in the year to achieve my goals for the [00:10:00] year. I want you to remember how badass you really are. I mean, just the fact that you started a business. Do you know what kind of leap of faith you had to take to do that?
Even those of you who got pushed into it by circumstances beyond your control, it took guts and courage for you to do what you do. Right now, you are a badass. Just because you are a business owner, you can do the hard stuff. And if your confidence has taken a hit lately, I'm gonna link for you a brand new confidence hypnosis that I just recorded.
It's available on the Aura Health app and you can try it free for 30 days with the link provided. You can also listen to all my other hypnosis recordings there and there's like 30,000 plus tracks on Aura so you can keep yourself very busy. [00:11:00] But I'll make sure I link the confidence hypnosis. Actually, I have a couple on there.
Maybe I'll link all of them. That's an idea. I'll give you a stack of confidence hypnosis tracks to listen to. How about that?
So as we step into September together, I want you to remember this. You don't need to be perfect. You don't need to do everything. You just need to reset, refocus, and take consistent action toward what matters the most. These next four months are your opportunity to finish strong, to prove to yourself that you can set a vision and bring it to life.
And if this episode gave you that little nudge that you needed, share it with a friend who might need the same boost right now, and make sure you're subscribed to success in mind so you don't miss what's coming next. I'm Terry Holland, and as always, your success begins in mind. So until next time, keep going.
You've got this, and I'll be back with you again next week, my friends. Bye for now.[00:12:00]
