Summer

[00:00:00] Welcome back to Success in Mind, the show for high performers, entrepreneurs, and ambitious humans who are done playing small and ready to shape a compelling future. Today we're gonna talk about tackling something that comes up every single year, the summer slump. You know what I'm talking about, that weird hazy time when the world seems to move in slow motion.
Emails are delayed, clients are on vacation, and the temptation to coast is real. So today's episode is for the ambitious souls who want to stay focused without burning out even when the rest of the world is chilling on a patio with a margarita. So let's talk about how to stay in momentum when everyone else is checked out.
Welcome to Success in Mind, the podcast for driven entrepreneurs ready to rewire their thinking, to create success on their terms. I'm Terri Holland and I will help you ~to do just that ~through high performance [00:01:00] coaching and hypnotherapy. I'm here to help you overcome fear, ditch ~the ~self-doubt, and tap into unstoppable clarity.
If you're ready to align your mindset with your goals, you are in the right place. Let's get your success locked in.
. First of all, let's talk about why the summer slump happens. There are a few reasons why the slump shows up every year. Rhythms slow down. People start taking vacations, routines get a little bit looser, and collectively, our energy dips. Internal resistance could creep in. You might start thinking, no one's paying attention anyway.
I might as well relax. ~Or, ~no one else seems to be working, so why should I be working? And then there's the comparison trap. You see others appearing to enjoy life, and you might start to question your grind, your focus, how much you're [00:02:00] working. ~And so ~here's the truth. There is nothing wrong with slowing down.
Rest is productive. ~But what I wanna talk about today, ~what we're focusing on today is intentional momentum, staying connected to your goals without hustle, guilt, or burnout. ~So ~if you are a high performer and you want to continue working and building throughout the summer. But you also feel like things are really slow.
Let's look at how you can beat the summer slump. ~So first of all, ~redefine what progress looks like. Summer is the perfect time to shift gears from execution to strategy. ~So ~if you have been busy working with clients and doing your business well now you might be finding that. Things are slower. Clients are on vacation.
That doesn't mean that you have to stop working. You can shift your focus and start thinking more [00:03:00] about your strategy. Ask yourself, what do I want Q4 to look like? What relationships do I want to nurture? Now, what projects can I prep while it's quiet? This summer I am building out courses because ~just like many of you, ~a lot of my clients are on vacation or have scaled back over the summer, and so I have more time, more flexibility in my schedule to be building out projects that I've been wanting to work on for a while, including my upcoming new course Booked and Brilliant, which will teach you exactly how to get booked on podcasts like this one.
~Uh, ~yes, that was. Totally a plug for my upcoming course. So think about what kind of projects have you been wanting to work on, but you've been so busy working, maybe you haven't had time for ~it. Now, ~momentum doesn't have to mean launching. It can mean laying the [00:04:00] groundwork. You could be planting seeds right now.
You plant your seeds in the quiet seasons so you can harvest. In the loud ones so that when everyone comes back in September, when business picks up again, you're hitting the ground running. When everyone's ready to buy, you know exactly what you're offering. You have your programs, your courses, your products ready to go, and you can shift to a summer schedule that works for you.
So instead of defaulting to vacation mode or burnout mode, there's a whole range of flexibility in between. ~So ~look at it this way. Choose three non-negotiables each week that keep you connected to your future vision. ~So ~what could those three things be? What would that mean for you? If you had three non-negotiables each week that keep you connected to where you're going and [00:05:00] what it is you want to create?
Time block your summer flow hours. You can make these short but focused work sessions, build in play, sun, freedom on purpose, ~not by accident. ~Also, look at where you're working. I am a huge fan of taking my laptop outside ~and sitting in the sun ~and working outdoors through the summer. My porch, I have a porch in the front of my house and I have a deck at the back of my house, and those become my default offices in the summer.
~And ~the only time ~where ~you might find me working indoors is when I have clients. And ~I have ~client sessions to attend to. Otherwise, if I'm planning, writing, doing anything else, editing the podcast, anything that doesn't require for me to be on video and doesn't require privacy or a quiet environment, I'm gonna be outdoors doing it.
You don't have to [00:06:00] earn rest with exhaustion. You can design it alongside your productivity. So design the summer schedule that's gonna work for you. When do you want to take those times off? Do you want a longer weekend each week, throughout the summer? I'm not booking clients on Mondays.
~I might book the odd client in during the summer. I don't do that. ~I keep my Mondays very loose in the summer because my husband is also off on Mondays and that gives us three whole days to enjoy things. Then I work outside whenever I can and I always take time off in the summer. ~So ~what's a schedule that will work for you?
And here's a mindset shift that I really love, and this is how you can leverage the invisible advantage while the world is slowing down, you build quietly. This is when your podcast, your content, your offers, your relationships can deepen. [00:07:00] Because when the fall rolls around and everyone's scrambling to get back into gear after the summer holidays, you are already in motion.
You're not behind, you're ahead. That's the invisible advantage of doing a little bit more than what's normal even in the off season. And ~again, ~I really want to, ~I really wanna ~enforce here that you don't have to work if you don't want to. ~I mean, ~as long as you can pay your bills and cover your expenses.
If you wanna take summer off and do nothing, by all means do it. You need to do what works for you. But if you were in a season in your business where maybe that's not an option right now financially, or maybe you just have such big goals and dreams that you're working towards, that taking the summer off isn't aligned with where you're going ~then.~
Take advantage of the invisible advantage that while everyone else is spending the day at the lake [00:08:00] or drinking margaritas on a patio, you are quietly building. There's power in that.
And before we finish, I wanna leave you with this. You are not on the same calendar as the average person. You are building something that is bigger, bolder, and more aligned, and that means your path will look different, and that's a good thing. So take the rest that you need, but don't disconnect from your vision.
Instead, stay lightly tethered and let this season be one of low pressure alignment instead of an all or nothing intensity. You don't have to put your foot on the gas during the summer, but you also don't need to come to a full stop. ~And ~I thought today for something a little bit different, we could finish with some affirmations [00:09:00] and just a little moment of grounding in affirmations.
So if it is safe for you to do so, let's take a few seconds now to just close your eyes. And if it's not safe for you to close your eyes, if you're driving, if you're doing anything which requires your conscious attention, ~uh, just ~don't do this part, and you can come back to it later and listen to this part later.
~Okay? Agreed. Good. Okay. ~Okay. So just take a moment and close your eyes and take a deep breath in through your nose. Hold it for a moment and then exhale on a sigh. Let it go. Take a couple more breaths, just like that one in through your nose. Hold it and sigh it out.
One more in through your nose. [00:10:00] Hold. And let it go
and feel in to this thought. And you can repeat these after me, either out loud or in your mind.
I can slow down and still stay in motion.
I can rest and still be in momentum.
I choose presence, alignment, and joy Even now.
Good, and come back into the present, [00:11:00] opening your eyes. So if this episode resonated with you today, share it with someone else who's building big things this summer. ~And ~if you want help staying focused and staying in flow, I would love to see you for a discovery call. I'll put the link in the show notes as always.
~And I hope to see you in one soon. So ~until next time, let's keep success in mind and enjoy your summer while staying focused on where it is you're going. Alright, my friends, thank you for joining me today. Bye for now.
